Welcome Back!

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! I hope that all of you had a relaxing and rejuvenating summer. As you begin the school year refreshed and ready to be the strong advocate you are for your school community, remember to continue to take care of yourself as well. For those of you who were able to attend the NASN Conference in Denver found that Delaware was very well represented. From a group presenting about mentoring to our award recipients, Delaware was in the limelight. And Janice Selekman was there signing the third edition of School Nursing: A Comprehensive Text. We have much to be proud of.

Let’s keep this momentum going as you begin another school year. In the days when your door is a revolving one and you can’t get ahead of your paperwork, remember the child who you helped work out an issue with their chronic disease and was able seek further medical assistance so they can return to the classroom. Or perhaps the student with anxiety who was able to take a test. These and many more are what you accomplish on a given day.

Also, remember that DSNA is here to help you as well. Our professional organization can only be as strong as its members. I encourage you to become involved. Maybe it is just to attend a few of our meetings to see what we are all about. Our next meeting is scheduled for Sept. 17, 2019 at 5:30 (dinner at 5:00) at Mission BBQ in Dover. Or perhaps you have been involved for a while and feel it is time to take on more of a leadership role. This spring we will be holding elections for all of our officers: President Elect, Secretary, Treasurer, and NASN Director. If you are interested in any of these positions, we would love to talk with you more about it.

Lastly, SAVE THE DATE for our fall conference. This year it will be held on Saturday, Nov. 16th at Nemours AI Dupont Hospital for Children. We have been collaborating with Nemours and JDRF and the title of the conference is Students with Diabetes – A Multidisciplinary Approach to Care.  We hope to see many of you there.

I wish all of you a fulfilling school year. Please reach out to me or any of our other Executive Board members if you have any questions, concerns or suggestions for us. These members are: Shelley Bridge, President Elect; Suzanne Mansi, Secretary, Mark Steigerwalt, Treasurer, and Megan Fioravanti, NASN Director.

Hope to see you soon!

Chriss Zimmerman , MS, RN, NCSN
